On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). This act is designed to stimulate the economy through a variety of grant, tax, and social programs. All of these programs amount to a stimulus package of almost $800 billion. ARRA provides Centennial several grant opportunities and the City is currently in the process of determining which funds to pursue. For information specific to Colorado, visit Colorado's ARRA Web site. 

Centennial has created a Grant Team to explore the different opportunities ARRA presents. It has representatives from several departments and divisions and meets weekly. The two types of grants currently being discussed are the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

In June, the City provided the U.S. Department of Energy with a plan for spending the City's entitlement of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds. Click here to read the News Release about Centennial's projects.

Also in June, the Centennial City Council approved the plan for spending additional funding from the Community Development Block Grant program.  The additional funds are also part of the federal ARRA stimulus package.  The funding will enable the City to improve sidewalks in a neighborhood on the far west part of Centennial, the only tract that fully qualifies for capital expenditures of these block grant funds.   The memo concerning this project is provided in the quick links section.
